Natalie’s Online Embroidery Classroom needs your support

Hi, I’m Natalie Dupuis from Sew By Hand, a specialist hand embroiderer who wants to bring the classroom to your home.  My training as a school teacher with a Masters of Education degree in curriculum design will allow me to set up a top-notch learning program in hand embroidery for you.

With the recent COVID-19 pandemic, all of my in-person classes for 2020 have been cancelled.  Many of my current and potential students will not be in a position to attend any in-person group classes for a long time. Many of them might even consider themselves in the higher risk group, and as such might exercise extra caution.  With this in mind, I have decided to upgrade my technological skills so I can teach in a new way. My online classroom will let students work in the comfort and safety of their own home. My plan is to offer a variety of classes that will be of interest to stitchers, beginner through advanced, with the focus being goldwork embroidery.  My first class will be based on my research paper on the couching stitch. When that goes well, I will create many more!

I plan to use teachable.com, an online classroom platform offering one of the best user-friendly education experiences available today. Students can access videos, live sessions, downloads, chats and so on, all uploaded by the teacher.

I am raising funds to get this project off the ground to help with the following expenses:

- Better technology and equipment to make the videos and live sessions high quality such as: professional webcam, ring lighting, tripods, and video editing software or support.

- Professional training on Mailchimp and international privacy laws for email communication and marketing.

- Professional training on running an online course.

- Virtual classroom rental space through teachable .com paid annually.

A kickstart in funding from you will give me the confidence to invest my time and effort into creating an effective, high-quality teaching medium whilst minimising financial risks.  This is important to me after losing all my teaching contracts since the pandemic started and for the foreseeable future.
