Historic Triangle Market in Madison :Recovery Fund

Donation protected
It breaks my heart to report that the recent unrest in Madison as a result of racial injustice has destroyed my sister and her husband’s store “Triangle Market”. Windows were broken, protesters tried to light fire in multiple spots, and merchandise was taken in front of their eyes. My sister and her husband got a call around 1 am on 6/1/2020 from their neighbor that protesters broke the window of Triangle Market and started to loot and attempt to set fire to the store. Despite the curfew, the owners drove and reached their store before 1:30 am and watched protesters loot their store in front of their eyes for more than an hour. Their neighbors stopped the attempts to set a fire three times during half an hour period. Triangle Market has been a historic icon for Madison, WI. It is family and minority-owned business. The year 2020 marks 100 years of its standing and serving the downtown community and visitors from all around the globe. When I was helping them clean the store after looting yesterday, a gentleman in his 80s approached to us and relayed how sorry he was to see the vandalism of the store. He shared that he used to come every day to Triangle Market during his college days. The owners were barely making their ends meet struggling with the COVID–19 pandemic, and in addition to this catastrophe, these incidents have made them feel desperation and despair. These problems could set back their recovery significantly, they say, or even make it impossible. Small businesses across the United States were already struggling to survive. Now, they face new threats from late-night sabotage and looting over the past few days. The owners reported, “They wholeheartedly support black lives matter”. Their entire front window was covered with signage of “BLACK LIVES MATTER”. They still are saying George Floyd deserves justice. But they want peaceful protest. They are extremely kind-hearted people and did not deserve this at all. It breaks my heart to see such caring people have to go through something like this. We are humbly requesting any nominal donation if you are in a position to do so. Donations collected from this campaign will help Triangle Market get back in its standing again. Funds generated will be utilized to renovate broken glass, fix equipment, retain employees’ payroll, get merchandise supplies, and purchase a new cash register to run the store. Please donate if you can, anything will help. Thank you so much in advance.
