A Dumb Ride for a Good Cause

Donation protected
Hey everybody,

If you made it this far you probably know about the ride my friend, Dillon Hollinger, and I are doing.

The route is about 210 miles which will probably take us anywhere from 13-15hrs which means starting and finishing in the dark. Our original inspiration for this came from people “Everesting” which is where you ascend the total height of Mt Everest on your bike/feet. Most achieve this by repeating the same climb over and over again, which we think would be about as tedious as it sounds. So our idea is to achieve the same amount of climbing without ever repeating the same climb.

Everesting originally started as a fundraising effort for COVID relief which is still very relevant, but we wanted to focus our fundraising efforts around our massive and current social injustices. We will be fundraising here and splitting whatever we raise between Black Lives Matter and Bike Santa Cruz County's Youth Advocacy Program.

Everyone that donates will be entered into a raffle with prizes from Santa Cruz Bicycles, Donkey Label, Bell Helmets, SRAM, GU, WTB, WD40, Light & Motion, Stages Cycling and more. One donation gets you one entry. Times are beyond tough right now so I want to avoid making this about an amount donated and more about taking some sort of action.

Once we close the fundraiser we will split whatever amount we raise down the middle and donate half to Bike Santa Cruz County and the other half to Black Lives Matter via their donation links on their websites.

Below are both of the organization's websites and a little information about the programs.

"Bike Santa Cruz County incorporates a peer-to-peer mentorship component into our Youth Education Programs. Teen mentors participate in a leadership development program, focusing on confidence building, mentorship skills, and advocacy training.

Practical skills and knowledge include: why youth advocacy matters, how to effectively advocate, how to explain and defend your position, and public speaking. While much of the focus will include bicycle advocacy such as increasing bicycle safety measures for youth in their cities, these skills will transfer to all forms of advocacy, from school based policy change to civil rights issues."

"#BlackLivesMatter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer. Black Lives Matter Foundation, Inc is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives."
