SUMMARY:  All monies raised will go toward purchasing new bullet proof vests, protective equipment, defensive training and bringing awareness to the importance of Code Enforcement Officer Safety.  Only $467.00 for a NIJ Certified Level 3A a vest! The DOJ Patrick Leahy 50% Reimbursement Grant makes net cost around $235.00!

Dedicated in loving memory of fallen West Valley Utah CE Officer Jill Robinson, Badge #108, EOW 8-09-18.

FULL STORY OF THIS FUND:

Three Code Enforcement Officers were specifically targeted and murdered while on-duty in 2018 within the span of 3 months. Another Code Enforcement Officer was just murdered on 8-20-20.

Yet, Cities & Counties across the nation are failing to protect their CE Officers with much needed protective equipment. What's even more alarming is that there's a trend by jurisdictions using unprotected civilian CE officers for traditional law enforcement duties such as Drug enforcement (illegal grows and dispensaries), Illegal gambling (internet cafes and backroom casinos) and homeless camp enforcement which house some of the most dangerous armed and diseased. These CE Officers understand the dangers and willingly put their lives and well-being on the line for the love of the job.

The primary goal for this fund is to purchase ballistic vests, other protective equipment and safety training for officers in need.

For now, I am donating the majority of my net earnings from teaching CACEO Code Enforcement Academy classes to help support this cause.  The fund's first vest donation was awarded to CE Officer E. Jannson of Victorville Code Enforcement on 1-14-19. Officer Jannson is assigned to what some would describe as a very rough area and tasked with addressing illegal gambling establishments by herself without the necessary protective equipment. This is a common theme for our profession.

If anyone needs a vest, please email me your name, agency name, duties performed and let me know if you've ever been threatened or attacked either on or off the job. It will take a long while as I do not teach for a living and it will depend on the generosity of donors.

If you cannot give, please help by simply sharing this article that I assisted with which was published by the Risk Management division of an organization that insures city municipalities in California (CA Joint Powers Insurance Authority). This article will help educate your Risk Management and Executive Management staff with regards to the dangers of our profession. The article provides sound solutions for your jurisdiction to protect you as well comply with the most fundamental OSHA regulation, which is to provide a safe work environment.

One CA agency immediately asked how they can arm their CE Officers, as they see the clear and present danger (2 CE Officers were specifically targeted and murdered within 3 months of each other).

Click the link and scroll down to Code Enforcement Officer Safety: A PARAMOUNT CONCERN. Cut and paste the article and share with your executive management.

Please contact me with any questions you may have regarding equipment, training, policies and procedures, etc.

I can also custom-tailor a specific training just for your agency.
