Providing books by Black authors to 300 pupils

Donation protected
We are fundraising to provide our incoming year 7 cohorts with books by Black authors, to help bridge the reading gap that may have widened due to COVID-19 and to help educate students on racism. The books will go to students from Wreake Valley Academy and Roundhill Academy in Leicester.

In order to provide 300 students with a book, we need to raise a minimum of £1500.

The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) have stated that school closures are likely to have reversed all the progress made to close the attainment gap within the last decade. This is devastating analysis. As educators, it is important that we are actively addressing this issue, so that students are not disadvantaged further.

In light of Black Lives Matter, we are also reflecting on our curriculum and ways to educate students on anti-racism. Through reading, we are able to provide students with knowledge and access to positive BAME role models and normalise BAME characters, to allow students to empathise with people from different backgrounds.

Please support us in helping to make necessary improvements. Every penny counts!
