Guardianship Corps Volunteer Program
Donation protected
Guardianship Corp is a 501 (c)(3) not for profit that provides Guardianship services for the indigent, forgotten or undocumented who become incapable of caring for themselves due to cognitive impairment. Our clients suffer from Alzheimers Disease, Developmental Disabilities or Traumatic Brain injuries requiring monitoring and advocacy on their behalf. Our clients have no family to help, monitor or advocate for them and cannot speak for themselves while most in need.
Our model uses retired volunteers to visit clients twice a month in the residences either in a nursing home, group home or hospital, monitoring their care and well being.
While Guardians are only required to visit 4 times a year,, our model using volunteers creates a cost effective structure to visit each client up to twice a month, adding an additional layer of oversight for the most vulnerable of our Community.
We are currently guardian for 40 wards in Suffolk County, N.Y. as appointed by the Courts. Our small paid staff (2 people) work with 5 volunteers and the Courts. Original funding came from New York State, however with the NYS budget in crisis, we were not funded for the coming year.
We seek funding to continue to serve our clients, the Courts and our Community.
