A Mission for Marie

Who?

Marie Barlow is the kind of person who can lift and lighten the mood in any room she enters.  Marie Barlow is the kind of family member/friend/co-worker/hairstylist that makes you feel like you can talk to her about anything because she will never judge you and always knows the right thing to say to make you feel better.  Marie Barlow is the kind of person who will never let you know that she is carrying the weight of the world, because her light and positivity shine so brightly.  She is the kind of person who would never ask for anything and give you the shirt off her back.  Marie Barlow is one of the strongest people I know.

Marie Barlow is Wife to Darryl, Mom to her beautiful children, Devin (10) and Mollison (3), and Stepmom to her beautiful stepchildren, Deonte (21), Dewayne (19), and Ayanna (16).  She has been a hairstylist at Halo For Men for almost 10 years, where she has a very loyal following.

What?

About a month ago (May 2020), Marie went to the doctor when she was having trouble seeing out of her left eye.  The doctor diagnosed her with a rare eye disease, called Uveitis, Glaucoma, and some vascular issues.  Unfortunately, Marie is now blind in her left eye.  As it stands, there aren't YET any treatments or surgeries that might allow her to see out of that eye again.

As anyone can imagine, losing sight in her left eye has been and will continue to be a major adjustment in Marie’s everyday life, not to mention, her occupation.  Marie is resilient and has an excellent, positive attitude about the challenges she is facing.  As she has said, “I don’t have time for pity parties!”  Her perspective is inspiring, and we could all learn something from her.

Where?

The reason we have put together this account is to give the people in Marie’s life a way to give back to her (many of her loyal clients have been asking, too).  The intention is that the money could go towards medical visits (past and future), her expensive, monthly eye drops (around $100/month), medications, her special eyeglasses with safety lenses and U.V. protection.  It is also intended to go towards her loss of income since she is currently unable to work.  When she is able to return to work, she may have to lessen her hours and she might not be able to do as many haircuts as she did before.  As a commission-based employee, she might still suffer a deficit.

So, all the money donated will go straight to Marie and she will be able to decide where she and her family need it most.

When?

Although Marie does not rule out the possibility of a miracle (and neither should we), she will most likely have these added expenses for the rest of her life.  As long as this platform is available or until that miracle happens, please feel free to give any amount at any time.

Why?

Although Marie is optimistic that she will be able to return to cutting hair again, this will put a strain on her household, financially.  Marie and her husband, Darryl, make a great team in taking care of one another and their family and there is no doubt that, together, they will grow stronger from this.  This is an opportunity for us to make things a little easier for them and show Marie that her community stands behind her.

We should help Marie because even though she didn’t ask for it, she deserves it.

We should help Marie because she is the kind of person who says things like this:

“You know, it’s been really interesting.  Since this has happened, my whole perspective has changed.  I have a new appreciation for the things in my life that really matter.  It’s like God had to take away part of my sight in order for me to really see.”

That… is the kind of person Marie Barlow is.
