Laney’s Legacy Memorial Fund

Laney’s Legacy Memorial Fund has been established by our family to honor the life, love, and legacy of Elaine Byrum Herring. In lieu of traditional gifts such as flowers, food or visits, we ask that anyone who would like to honor her memory or support our family in any way contribute to this memorial fund.

Elaine lived and loved on the century Byrum Farm in Gates, North Carolina, a place that wasn’t only her home, it was a definitive symbol of who she was and what she believed in… deep family roots, close family bonds, a deep appreciation and love of God’s country, and an intense internal desire to always conserve and contribute to her surroundings. The family will use the collective donations to establish a memorial garden in her honor next spring. A selection of flowering perennials, butterfly, insect, and bird hosting plants, and flowering and evergreen trees will be a physical representation of her forever presence on this farm, the family homesite, just as she is a forever part of each person who chooses to contribute. The farm is not just where Elaine lived and where the family gathers, it’s a part of who she was, now and forever. The family will work together to build this garden near the entrance of the farm next spring. Elaine was a timeless classic, a true beauty, full of energy and love and the gardens will be a physical representation of dynamic yet humble nature.

We hope after the garden is established to have a memorial celebration in her honor, inviting anyone who contributes or who would simply like to visit and experience all the beauty of this farm, her home, our legacy. Traditional giving has also been established through a local account called “Laney’s Legacy” at State Employees Credit Union in Gatesville, attention Leanna Tyler. Laney’s Legacy honors what she would want, a collective effort to give sustainably to this farm, to show love and support to her family as a way to forever commemorate her passing now to life eternal.
