Tom Zuniga's Surprise Medical Bills

Our dear friend Tom had been suffering for weeks with joint pain and what seemed to be very severe allergies (according to Urgent Care). After allergy medication failed to make a difference, he went to stay with his parents, and consulted with a family doctor. Blood tests revealed a severely low hemoglobin levels and red blood cell count, and his doctor recommended he be admitted to the hospital immediately upon receiving these results.

He stayed overnight and has been receiving transfusions while doctors continue diagnostics. They have not arrived at a confident diagnosis yet, so we're not sure what continuing treatment will look like. They are beginning by testing for tuberculosis, and he's been advised to count on being in the hospital for at least a week.

We are raising money for his current hospital stay and transfusions, as well as to provide him peace of mind as he continues to undergo diagnostics.

As many of you know, Tom left his teaching job a few years ago to commit full-time to Your Other Brothers, a ministry that cares for non-straight men in the church. While his career shift has born much fruit, it means he cannot rely on insurance to cover the costs of this care, diagnosis, and treatment.
