Hey! My name is Dayo and i'm a 28 year old black lesbian living in london. I am in desperate need of top surgery.
It has taken a lot for me to admit that I need this help, but I'm learning that if you don't ask you don't receive. It brings tears to my eyes writing this and thinking about all I've put myself through over the years, trying to find ways to feel comfortable in my body. Quarantine has given me much time to contemplate and has made me realise the extent to which dysphoria has affected my mental health and stopped me from seeing myself. The size of my chest is a huge trigger for me and I'm constantly aware of it which often causes me to dissociate. I also have painful grooves in my shoulders and constant rib and spine pain from the weight of my chest.
With your assistance I can finally start to feel secure in my body and gain a handle on the dysphoria and despair I grapple with daily. This surgery will change the quality of my life..Top surgery in the long run will help me to feel more present and confident in my skin which will improve my mental health as a result. I'm asking and calling upon the community and those who are able to help me financially to please help make this my reality!
As many of you may know in the UK on the NHS, the waiting time to begin the process is up to 5 years. I started this gofundme to raise money to help with the cost of private expenses as I fear with my current mental state I will not be able to wait that long.
My hope is that I will be able to have the surgery next year. The money raised will go towards paying for the surgery and the remaining amount will go towards rent, bills and aftercare as I will have to take time off work.
