It takes a village...to raise a grad student!

Hi there!

My name is Giulia, I am 25, from Italy, and there are two elements that have been a big and meaningful part of almost all my life: my chronic health condition and a passion for advocating in favor of "freedom of attention" for users and consumers online.

Since when I was a child, I remember not being able to keep up with my peers when it came to play, or to exercise. I would be extremely fatigued after a short walk or a volleyball match, and I remember feeling very frustrated for not being able to understand why I could not feel better after a short rest on a bench, just like every other kid. To this day, there is no cure to ease my fatigue and body aches, but I get by through pacing myself while still doing my best at school and work.

I have graduated with a BA in Communications and a minor in Business administration Magna cum Laude in May 2020 from John Cabot University, one of the largest American Universities in Italy.

Through the years at John Cabot, I got really passionate about digital users' rights while navigating the web. I wrote papers, recorded audio essays and shot videos about ways on how to guarantee them a freedom of attention among chaotic online platforms that constantly race for our attention on their apps, that keeps us glued on our devices screens.

I recently received an unconditional offer for the MSc in Digital Society at the University of Edinburgh, which will require me to spend my savings, requesting a loan, along with finding a part time job that sits well with my chronic condition. Though, due to the current pandemic, I am forced to ask for some extra help from the GoFundMe community.

If you beleive it's worth investing in me, or you are at least curious about my ideas, and want to help me gather the tools to grow as a better academic, I will make sure to send out monthly updates to you on my progress and accomplishments. I will also share with you useful tips on how to better shield yourself from attention economy practices and how to recognize sources that spread disinformation online. Just leave your email!

Feel free to also check out my works ! On my website you'll be able to check out the papers I've written over the years at John Cabot University, as well as videos I've produced, shot and edited. There are also some blog entries that you might find interesting!
