Support to protect Eagle Lake

Donation protected

Our story:
The proposed motorsports project was introduced to the Eagle Lake City Council in February 2019 and to the public with an open house held by the developer - Bradford Development - on June 12, 2019.  The released Environmental Assessment Worksheet and the public comment period in March 2020 brought on 13 comments in support of the project and 350 concerns/questions/corrections from the public/residents, MNDOT, DNR, Blue Earth County Public Works, Blue Earth County Property and Environmental Resources, and MN Pollution Control Agency.

Concerns include:

-Increased noise affecting wildlife and residents
-Increased local traffic on an already busy county road and Hwy 14.
-The lake and shoreland.  (Eagle Lake (south) is a Designated Wildlife Lake - one of only 70 in the state of Minnesota).
-Wildlife and their habitats.
-Aesthetics
-Conflict of Interest (2 councilmen are real estate agents)
-Loss of agricultural land.
-Sustainability of the facility

Throughout the process there has been conflicting information, lack of transparency, changes to the project (after the public got to review it) and minimal notices.

Despite many of these concerns not being adequately addressed or completely ignored, on May 28, 2020 the Eagle Lake City Council voted 4-1 to not move forward with an Environmental Impact Statement and further explore the potential significant impacts this development could bring to the area.

This proposed project could have been many different things (waterpark, distribution center, truck stop, etc.) but the environmental and development processes would remain.  The impact on a designated wildlife lake, the loss of wetlands and habitats, the lost quality of life for local residents, the increased noise and traffic – they would all still matter.  Why don’t they matter right now?

Our Goal: To raise money to see that potentially significant impacts and concerns brought forth during the Environmental Assessment Worksheet comment period are studied further with an Environmental Impact Statement.  A successful appeal will result in the completion of an Environmental Impact statement.

December 9th, 2020 - ***This matter is set for oral arguments via ZoomGov on January 28th, 2021 at 9:30am. A written decision will be filed within 90 days. The oral arguments are open to the public and available on the MN Court of Appeals website.***
