UOSSWPC English Channel

Donation protected
*As our swim has been postponed, we will each individually be swimming/cycling or running the distance of the channel on our designated slot from 25th June - 4th July 2020 and would be grateful if you could help us by donating *

9 of us crazy swimmers from the University of Sheffield Swimming and Water polo club will be swimming the channel from Dover to Calais on 25th June to 4th July for Alzheimer's UK. The team is Rosie, Lauren, Sian, Grace, Ed, Brandon, Jack C, Jack M and Matt W. Reserves include Matt G, Kitty, Jordan and Xav.

If you would like to sponsor the team in raising money to swim the channel itself please get in touch. We will be expected to raise £4300 for the pilot boat itself, £425 for Channel Swimming Association Fees and approximately £3000 for accommodation.  On top of this we will have insurance and equipment to pay for. This is a huge financial burden with being students. We have completed bag packs and cake sales so far to help pay for this.

The challenge of swimming the channel is not to be underestimated. The English Channel is 21 miles but we may end up swimming much further depending on tides. The swim could take anywhere from 7 to 28 hours to complete. We will be swimming in below 14 degrees water, and we CANNOT wear a wetsuit. In comparison, the temperature of water in a swimming pool is 27 degrees.

We will be doing our 2 hour qualifying swim, without a wetsuit, in below 14 degrees water next May. In the build up to this we will be completing weekly open water sessions at Thrybergh Country Park alongside the help of Swim Your Swim.

This swim will be in aid of Alzheimer's Research UK.

Thank you!
