Aruba Hospitality Workers Relief Fund

The Aruba Food & Wine Foundation is seeking your help in building a relief fund. The aim of this fund is to provide emergency economic relief to workers of the hospitality industry of Aruba who are facing economic hardship due to the Coronavirus crisis.
Aruba has instituted a lockdown for all incoming international passengers (non-residents), which has cut off the income for the majority of hospitality workers on the island. Since March 17th most Restaurants and Bars have shut down and they do not have the means to continue paying their employees during this time. Though the government's decision to restrict incoming travel and shutdown all non-essential businesses is a wise decision for public health, this is having catastrophic effects on the financial situation of our community.
In Aruba most of the amazing and caring hospitality workers who strive for excellence every day and do their best to offer guests genuine hospitality are amongst the hardest hit by this crisis. We know that in the coming weeks many will be presented with huge financial challenges and if you are able to donate, then together we can be better prepared to help those in need. Any donation, no matter the amount will help make an impact on the lives of the people you love working in the hospitality industry of Aruba.
The government has set up a temporary relief fund for those who have lost income and that meet a list of criteria, to help cover utilities and grocery bills. Although the government is making efforts, we know that this will not be enough. As per S&P Global, Aruba is considered the #1 country in the world that is most economically vulnerable to the COVID crisis due to our dependency on tourism.
The Aruba Hospitality Workers Relief Fund is managed by a board of small business owners from the Aruba Food & Wine Foundation who are concerned about the local community and who will take every measure to ensure these funds are being committed to local relief efforts and distributed to those in need. Donations will go towards relief efforts that focus on hospitality workers as well as directly given to hospitality workers in the form of supermarket gift cards. These funds are intended to contribute to urgent needs such as groceries, medicine, hygiene products and are not meant to be an income replacement. In the event that funds are left over from this crisis, they will be donated to a local food bank with the aim of feeding people in our community.
