West Central RockHounds, LLC is a small business located in Willmar, Minnesota. It was our desire to open a rock shop to help kids of all ages experience the wonderful world of gem mining and rock collecting. Earth Sciences, Geology, Gemology and Mineralogy are areas in which there is little to no experiential learning opportunities. It is our desire to change that. We are Minnesota's only rock shop with an indoor mining sluice (Think panning for gold, but with gemstones!) We carry a large selection of gemstones and minerals, home decor items, jewelry as well as provide lapidary services and host private events. We have established a program for beginner RockHounds to affordably begin collecting and learning about rocks, gems and minerals. Unfortunately, with the onset of the COVID-19 virus and subsequent business shut downs, we were unable to open on time. This business was completely self funded through savings and personal credit. When we were able to finally open, it was without the Grand Opening and marketing that we hoped for as our budget for this had to be rerouted to pay for rent, utilities, etc. As it stands now, without financial support, we will be done before we really get started.
Also, unfortunately, due to our unique situation, we do not qualify for ANY of the assistance programs that were made available to small businesses. Mainly because we had not established our business yet. Missed it by a week, literally. In order to qualify for these programs, you had to be an established business by January 31st...our established date is February 6th.
Any funds raised will be applied immediately to our cost of operations and updating our inventory. We had several other features planned, such as a geode cracking station, a line of rock tumblers and rough rocks for tumbling available by the pound, as well as, a mobile mining experience that could travel to schools, fairs, festivals, scouting events and private events such as birthday parties, family reunions and corporate events. With your support we will be able to fulfill our mission of bringing this experience to everyone.
