COVID-19 Relief: Queens Families & Seniors of NYC

The covid-19 pandemic has been devastating communities all throughout the country...
However, the senior community is deemed the most at-risk and to be impacted most negatively in terms of quality of life.
Deaths from this pandemic have skewed heavily to those over age of 60. Almost 7000 seniors have passed away in nursing home . Those in long-term care facilities are being decimated and countless others have passed away alone at home .
Exposure to the virus compounded with the isolation that many seniors already face leaves them in a dire and desperate situation.
WE ARE HanaCares
We are a congregate day care facility for senior citizens with functional and cognitive impairments, helping those that need the help in our communities. As covid-19 necessitated social distancing, we closed our facilities and transitioned into an Emergency Outreach Mode.
OUR EMERGENCY OUTREACH PLAN
This Emergency Outreach Mode provides fresh, culturally appropriate meals & groceries to seniors in all 5 boroughs, delivery of medications & other essential items, puzzles, games & other activities to stimulate minds and hearts.
We provide wellness calls to not only monitor symptoms but to lend an ear, have a conversation, and provide a human link.
Furthermore, we plan on providing virtual activities that are age appropriate, ranging from chair exercise, meditation, dancing, taichi and more.
The purpose of our mission is to allow our city's seniors to stay safely inside their homes -- all the while, feel connected to their community and not feel as though they are being abandoned.
We may not be the front lines of this pandemic like our brave doctors and nurses and other health professionals; however, we believe by doing this that we can help "flatten the curve" and do our part for this great city.
WHY WE NEED DONATIONS
The programs that normally fund these services have either suspended, undercut or undermined providers that have been working tirelessly to care for the under-served. The very safety nets that were to ensure their safety are either mired inaction, or, worse, have put profit over the people.
Worse, pre-existing programs and pantries are closing , exhausted , overburdened , and many seniors are slipping through the cracks .
A CALL TO ACTION
We are relying on ourselves and, just as importantly, you, the public, to help care for those who need the most help.
Why us? We are already established in the community, located near a variety of different communities and demographics, and connected with churches, other centers and organizations in the area. We are equipped and staffed. We are not hindered by any red tape.
We can provide relief immediately.
The donations would allow us to continue this great program, purchase the items necessary, pay for gasoline and drivers, and cover the myriad of other expenses that it takes to care of New York City.
As more donations come in, we will continue to reach out to more seniors and needy individuals
