GIFT OF LOVE - Help Veteran Save Her Family Home

THE FULL STORY : Who Is Charisse and Why this "Gift Of Love" GoFundMe?

It is said, all you have to do is ask. So I'm asking...

Hello my name is Nola, and I feel compelled to reach out on behalf of my dear friend Charisse Arrington. She is such a good hearted person and really needs your immediate support to help her raise funds meant to stop the unfair foreclosure on her precious family home and forbid, being tossed out on the streets.

Charisse's beautiful home has been in her family for many years. It was passed down to her by her wonderful parents, who celebrated being married "till long life did they part." Her parents worked hard to be able to purchase this home so they could raise their children in a safe, happy, loving environment that was and still is the life of this home today.

By the numbers— A few years after inheriting the property, Charisse's taxes on the home steadily began to increase to epidemic proportions of more than a whopping 215%.

From the years 2015 to 2016, the amount of Charisse's property tax payments have grossly gone from approximately $2200 to around $8000.  That's more than a $5800 jump in assessment.  All in one year!

Since 2016, and every single year up to present, that assessed $8000 property tax jump has remained the new yearly amount (plus some). How is this even legal?

So, it wasn't that Charisse got sloppy and didn't do her best to pay. It was that she struggled to keep fast pace with the extreme cost of taxation assessed on the home she owns and unfortunately, met with arrears.

And how appalling to learn that in spite of her having zero mortgage and owning her home free and clear; it is the powers that be who make matters like this more difficult for Charisse and so many other American homeowners in this country. On top of everything else, more folks than ever are now having to worry about how they are going to sustain keeping their homes via the excessive escalation of property taxes that individual county's seem to be able to impose upon homeowners at will.

After slipping into arrears, for mere pennies on the dollar, the county where Charisse lives wasted no time selling off her taxes to the highest bidder.

Thereafter, the opportunistic parties who bought her property tax arrears from the county, coupled with other inflated tacked on court and county fees —then ballooned 3 years worth of tax arrears initially owed, to the newly skyrocketed amount of $40,000.

Unlike some politicians and legislatures who are able to circumvent paying taxes, unfortunately, there are homeowners and ordinary people like Charisse, or perhaps someone you know who right now, is in jeopardy of having their home foreclosed on and painstakingly taken away from them.

It is alarming the rate at which homeowners are being choked off from living this part of their American dream, with their homes unjustly ending up on the sales block, while the lives of good citizens are turned upside-down, ending up in a destination bin called homelessness.

Scary to think this could be you, me or anyone.  This is a big issue. For sure, one far bigger than Charisse alone.

It's no secret that gentrification is an obvious part of the problem affecting the black community at large. Yet, the unjust escalation of property taxes, resulting in home ownership loss is rapidly becoming a massive problem affecting a variety of hard working Americans to suffer the same fate.

This should not be happening! Please… let's not allow this to happen to Charisse!

Charisse is both a veteteran who has honorably served her country, and by the account of any who know her, is an amazing human being who does and would do anything she could to help anyone. Truly, I wish my friend didn't have to go through any of this. Yet, with all that is unfolding in her own process, Charisse being vulnerable and transparently sharing her story is allowing her to transform a negative into good advocacy, bringing about awareness to concerns that could possibly affect any of us.

Together, with caring hearts and willing hands on deck, we can help Charisse to win in keeping her precious family home.

Charisse is grateful for any size donation you are willing to give. No matter, every penny truly counts towards helping  her save her home. THANK YOU!
