Launch Spark into the Next Decade of Dance

Project Overview

The past year has brought significant changes both to the dance world and to Spark Movement Collective . In the midst of these challenging times, our new Artistic Director, Michelle Thompson Ulerich, took the reins and  pivoted our fall show to a virtual platform continuing to make art that is meaningful, timely, and accessible to audience members of all experiences. We were thrilled to collaborate with choreographers Matt Dittes, Dolly Sfeir, and JoJo Boykins under the theme of finding light in the darkness and creating an accessible format during the pandemic.

Currently, we are rehearsing to provide safe and accessible performances outdoors. Funds raised this spring will help us bring two free performances of “The Emperor’s New Clothes” to audiences of all ages with outdoor shows on April 10th and 11th in Manhattan and Brooklyn parks. Despite a challenging year, we want to keep dance accessible for all and provide audiences with hope and creativity.

How You Can Help

Please help Spark by contributing to our goal of $10,000, to support our art, artists, performance, and the future of Spark. For the past eleven years, Spark has achieved its mission of providing accessible dance experiences due in large part to the generosity of family, friends, and patrons. A tax-deductible donation of any amount will put us closer to our goal!

How the Funds Will be Used

Production Costs (Goal: $5,000)

Live performance isn’t the only form of art that costs money to produce. This fall, we pivoted to a virtual performance model, which meant paying videographers, editors, and composers. This spring, we will need costumes, sound equipment, and signage for our outdoor performances.

Artist Stipends (Goal: $5,000)

The second phase of our campaign provides stipends for the artists. Spark’s dancers are incredibly talented and creative performers who are so dedicated to their craft and this company. Our dancers spend months in rehearsal developing and refining choreography, including 50+ hours preparing for each show.
