MEDICAL FUND for Musiiwa Madziwanzira
The young man in this video is 26 year old MUSIIWA MADZIWANZIRA, who was injured in an artisanal mining venture in Zimbabwe. While they were underground mining for gold a huge stone fell and crushed his back breaking his spinal in the process. He was then rescued and taken to Concession Hospital but the hospital did not have the necessary equipment so he was transferred to Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare where they found that the doctors were on strike and so he could not be attended to.
He was later transferred to Chitungwiza Hospital where there was no required equipment and all the hospital could do is to treat his wounds and discharge him. Because of the spinal injury, he is now paralysed from the waist down and cannot walk so he sleeps on his back all the time.
He lives with his unemployed mother in the rural area of MADAMOMBE in SEKE where they use a single room with no windows as a place to live in.
He is incontinent and so he requires a catheter and bags which need to be changed on a regular basis and also requires adult diapers. To change the catheter, they need to hire a doctor from Chitungwiza which can cost up to $50 at any given time.
MUSIIWA is in pain all the time and currently need to have a medical examination which includes a CT SCAN to determine the extent of the damage to the spine, it costs $200 the doctor will then examine the scan at $70 then treatment can commence. We understand that a rough estimate of the cost of the treatment is anything up to $1500 which money none of the family members has.
So I PATRICK SILLAH have enlisted the help of my friend Erick on Facebook to help us publicize the case of Musiiwa so that any members of the community and public can help if they so wish.
