Respite for COVID Frontline Caregivers

Donation protected
COVID frontline caregivers are experiencing burnout and compassion fatigue at unprecedented rates as caring for critically and seriously ill patients takes its toll on nurses' and chaplains' mental and emotional health.  Frontline caregivers are  vulnerable to depression and post-traumatic stress disorder with potential impacts to patients and coworkers.  Respite is a proven way to reduce caregiver burnout.

Respite is temporary and periodic breaks from stressful work conditions that include some form of calming therapeutic activity such as meditation, low-impact exercise like walking in nature, counseling, and creative expression.  With my teammates who are professionals in healthcare, meditation, art therapy, spiritual direction, and research science, we've created a respite program for health professionals and chaplains working directly with COVID patients in critical care.

Our program offers a blend of these practices in a structured experience to reduce the caregiving burden of healthcare professionals, clergy and others working in frontline roles of the COVID-19 crisis.  We provide this service to individuals and small groups at no cost to participants.

We're seeking donations to sponsor individual healthcare providers and hospital chaplains at $250 each to cover: fees charged by  counselors and other therapists, light snacks and bottled water, printed support materials, paper journals, and art supplies.  We're also seeking separate support for construction of a small shelter with benches to protect participants from strong sunlight and/or rain.

The program is taking place on private property in a serene rural setting, donated for use in this program.  The private landowner is also contributing temporary bathroom facilities and cleaning services.

Our goal is to provide respite for frontline caregivers immediately and to continue through 2021.  Our goal is to serve at least 100 caregivers in the Greater Cincinnati (Ohio) area this fall.  Greater Cincinnati is an area of more than 2 million people that has had more than 100,000 COVID cases, with hundreds of new cases daily.  The need for respite is immediate.   We are motivated to care for those who are risking their lives to care for others.

About us:  we are private individuals seeking to do the right thing.  We are not a non-profit.  I, Dr. Carol Williams, have initiated this program at my own personal expense and have donated the use of my farm NewRhinelandLLC , located in Bracken County, Kentucky, as the location for this respite program.  We are not seeking to profit from this program.  All donations will be used to directly sponsor individual participants and the construction of the small shelter for their comfort.

Thank you for your support!
