Posted from Cooper’s Caring Bridge. Written by Cooper’s Mom, Jenna Craig. Not sure where to start but Cooper was officially diagnosed Friday, Oct 9th with leukemia. It had been a rocky month prior of what doctors had thought were growing pains, a GI bug, and a string of mono. We finally got blood work back late last Thursday afternoon that showed that it was likely leukemia. We left the doctor office in Dickinson with strict instructions of 10 minutes to go home to pack and to get on the road to Bismarck right away. Coop was in good spirits Thursday and insisted I pack his swimming trunks because he was adamant on finding a pool to swim at while at the hospital. He quickly named his IV stand upon arrival "Tom" and prefers much more when the nurses come in for things for Tom rather than the things he has to take by mouth or when they need blood. He got his first blood transfusion Thursday night and did a bone marrow procedure last Friday morning. His pain Friday-Monday was absolutely excruciating but after his chemo treatment Monday they have managed to get his pain under control some so he is not as uncomfortable. He also got his port, named Tim, put in Monday and they did a lumbar puncture to see if the cancer had gotten in his spinal cord which at this time it has not. He tried for the first time Tuesday to stand and walk but that didn't go so well but we were happy to see that he at least wanted to give it a go. We are trying to take everything minute by minute. I appreciate all the texts even though I'm having a hard time responding doesn't mean that I don't eventually get around to reading them. The days go fast and are extremely exhausting for everyone involved as some of the meds are making Cooper moody but we are so happy to see the fight in him. He will have another round of chemo tomorrow and again on Monday so hoping with each treatment the pain subsides even if the moodiness intensifies. I've waited my whole life to be his mom so I will take him anyway God wants to give him to me.
