Goal of the campaign:
To raise funds for Cecilia’s medical test, corrective surgery and medications.
Her story:
We write to request for assistance for a young girl from Bauchi state in Nigeria, who has being battling with severe Cerebrospinal Meningitis for over 15 years.
Cecilia Joshua is 21 years of age and lives with her mother (widowed) and 4 siblings in Tafawa Balewa community in Bauchi state.
This ailment was first discovered in 2005 but due to lack of finances, Cecilia could not access proper medical attention until 2006 in Uthman Danfodio Teaching Hospital in Sokoto state in the country.
It was later discovered that the surgery carried out on Cecilia had a problem; the tube inserted through her brain into her bowels to drain the fluid was not the right size and this has caused further excruciating pain and inconveniences for her.
The doctor requested she is brought back for a corrective surgery, but due to their financial struggle as a family, Cecilia has not been able to return for the treatment; which is currently 14 years overdue.
Cecilia attends school in her community but the ailment and the effects of the pandemic have taken a difficult toll on her wellbeing.
The major means of sustainability for her family is farming; her mother fries and sells potatoes to earn income to put food on the table and support with basic household amenities.
A humanitarian development organization in Nigeria, by name Full Life Empowerment Programme (FLEP) is currently engaging the mother in a livestock intervention aimed at helping widows in Tafawa Balewa of Bauchi state to earn a sustainable livelihood that will result in them living dignifying lives.
Mary Joshua, her mother has catered for her daughter’s health issues since she was 6 years old, while also supporting her 4 other children and herself. Mary Joshua became widowed shortly after Cecilia’s surgery in 2006 after her husband (Cecilia’s father) developed a stroke and died.
We humbly call on the attention of as many as possible into the case of Cecilia, who desperately needs as much support as she can get Right Now.
An assessment test will be carried out on her to check and evaluate the severity of the complications on her current health status, which will inform the best action to be taken on her medically.
The cost of this MRI Scan/test on her head and neck has been estimated at 325 Euros (N 147, 000).
Also, it is estimated that her corrective surgery will cost 2,601 Euros (N 1,177,000) including her medications, making a sum total of 2926 Euros (N 1,324, 000) to help get Cecilia back on a good feet.
We strongly desire to see this young girl receive the right medical attention she needs; including her surgery, supplements/medications that will ease her pains and will grant her better usage of her body and an opportunity to be relevant to herself, her family and community.
Cecilia has suffered grave pain since a very little age and up till this very moment, she is yet to know what it feels like to be in complete ease.

i. 325 Euros (147,000 Naira) for the MRI scan/test
ii. 2159 Euros (977,000 Naira) for the corrective surgery
