Help us build a garden to feed our neighbors

Donation protected
The need is great. The location is right. The time is now!

Please read the update below for how to donate.

89% of the students in our neighborhood school are “food challenged”. Their families are often new to this country. Their homes lack garden space and many do not own a car. To address this urgent need, we’ve formed a partnership of local organizations, united in a common purpose, to help local families grow their own fresh food.

Together, we have resolved to create an eco-friendly organic community garden on the property of the UU Church of Vancouver WA (UUCV). The site is easily reached by foot or bus. Garden plots will be free to low-income families. Seeds and starts that suit family preferences will be provided along with any needed training. Garden families will plant and tend their own gardens and enjoy the bounty they grow.

Organizations that have shown interest in collaborating with UUCV on this project include: Maplewood Neighborhood Association, Fort Vancouver High School Community Resource Center, LULAC (League of United Latin American Citizens), Vancouver NAACP, and Martin Luther King Elementary Community Resource Center.

We’re encouraged by initial support from WSU Master Gardeners, Master Composters, Watershed Alliance and others but more is needed before spring.

Donations of any amount will help us build this garden!
