Tony Olivas Medical Fund

UPDATE:
Thank you everyone who has donated and spread the word and shared the fundraising page!!!

Tony was released from the hospital Thursday the 22nd of October. The situation is a bit more strenuous and costly than before.  He now has immediate medical expenses for medication and a loan for dialysis. His release is based on the hospital "loaning" Tony the dialysis service fee to an associated outpatient facility, with a personal guarantee on the hospital bill, as well as the fee they agreed to pay the outpatient facility. Tony had no other option than signing to get out, as the hospital stay would easily exceed the 90-day dialysis fee in just over a week.

We will continue to update any changes as they arise. Again, thank you all.

ORIGINAL POST:

Tony was alone and became ill in middle of August with respiratory problems, along with chest and back pains. Due to the pandemic, acquiring any assistance was difficult. He was finally taken  to the ER and admitted to the hospital on September 9th with internal bleeding caused by extremely thin blood from his blood thinners being out of range. The bleeding caused acute kidney failure. Although Tony spent two weeks in critical condition, the amazing staff and doctors at Northeast Georgia Medical Center saved his life and continue to offer him great care. Like everyone else affected by the Covid pandemic, as an artist, Tony was with no financial income for months, and had to let his medical insurance lapse. Tony has healed from all of his critical issues, but remains in the hospital. He remains in hospital because he cannot be discharged as he has no means of acquiring outpatient dialysis. No one will accept him because his kidney failure is acute, with the possibility of his kidneys regaining function--and he is without medical insurance. The hospital cannot discharge him as he will need dialysis every two days and no facility will provide it.

One facility has stated they may provide outpatient services but Tony must pay three (3) months in advance, with hopes of acquiring medical insurance during that time for future medical care. If paid out of pocket, dialysis costs over $70k a year.

This is urgent. Tony is acquiring an insurmountable medical debt being hospitalized for the last 6 weeks and counting.  Every day he's in hospital he is getting deeper in debt and unable to work.

We would like to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and  well wishes up to this time.

Notice:
This fundraiser has been established and will be managed by Tony's brother, Jose Olivas.

All funds will be distributed directly to any medical facility accepting Tony as a dialysis self-pay outpatient.
