Help a Friend Afford Shelter

Our Friend Has No Heat, Electricity, Hot Water, or Reliable Sewage
A friend of ours, J.M. who we met in Quaker meeting, was forced to move out of her rental in the middle of the pandemic. She is now living out of her car and in an old trailer that has no electricity, no hot water, no reliable sewage, and a rotten floor. The rainy season is coming, and the trailer has a leaky roof. After that, winter is coming to the rural mountain area where she lives and she doesn’t have heat. She is in her mid-60’s and is working four jobs to try to make ends meet. She has diligently searched for an affordable place to live but the cost of housing in California is high and the waiting list for low income housing is four to five years. She has been an attender at Quaker meeting and served on the hospitality committee. Unfortunately we can’t share her name for safety reasons.

The Cost
The trailer’s leaking roof, water heater, rotten floor, and vents need repair. The trailer also needs a new battery and a propane tank. The estimated cost for all this is $2,000.

How You Can Help
Can you please make a donation to a deserving fellow Friend to help keep her warm, safe, and dry before the arrival of the fall rains and the winter snows? Any amount would be greatly appreciated.
