Help Maurice Avoid Social Isolation
Donation protected
My name is Anne Speake and I am a dear friend of Maurice Dey. Maurice is a 73 year old man with Learning Disabilities who lives in Archiestown, Moray. He is supported by the charity Inspire and has a staff team who support him in all aspects of his life. Due to a change in company policy, staff are no longer permitted to use their cars to support Maurice to any of his clubs, social outings, visits to family & friends or in any way at all.
Maurice lives in a rural village which has extremely limited public transport. There is a dial-a-bus service which operates on a part time basis Mon-Fri but finishes at 6pm.
Maurice is a member of Greyfriars Club, Inspiring Darts Club and attends monthly discos around Moray where he can socialise and meet up with friends. It will now be extremely likely that he will have to give up these clubs as there is no bus available to take him and a taxi would cost over £100 rtn each time he wants to go to Elgin from Archiestown. In order to visit his sister in Buckie, Maurice would have to use the dial-a-bus to take him to Rothes, then get another bus to Elgin then another bus to Buckie. A journey of about 2.5 hrs each way which with Maurice's health conditions and age, he wouldn't manage.
Maurice needs to have a car of his own so his staff team can drive him to his social events and stop him becoming socially isolated from all that he loves. People with learning disabilities are much more at risk of loneliness and isolation, leading to mental health issues. Please help make Maurice's latter years as wonderful as he is and give what you can.
Thank you
