Support Georgina Cohen skeleton athlete

Donation protected

Welcome to my Go Fund Me page! I’m Georgina Cohen and I am working to achieve my dream of qualifying to become the first-ever female skeleton athlete to slide for Israel at the Winter Olympics and my target is Beijing 2022. I launched this ongoing campaign in October 2020. All contributions will go toward my progress as we dive headfirst on ice at 85mph with no brakes into the most exciting year yet - the Olympic winter season!

"It's definitely not going to be a walk in the park, it's not going to be easy at all, but it's a challenge that I'm really ready to stand up and face. The opportunity is there - I've been working really hard to set my team up around me, so that we're going to tackle this in the best strategic way."

Why do I need sponsorship?

There are 17 artificial tracks in the world - and you guessed it - we don’t have a track in Israel or in the UK, so we travel across Europe, North America and Europe for our races.

The areas dependent on achieving my funding goals this season include (but not limited to):

£25K | Coaching and support
Financing a professional support team who will travel with me to provide specialist coaching on the ice, the push start and data analysis.

£11K | Ice track training and facilities access
Covering track fees average £40 at each track, which is 2 runs per day, 5 days per week - 28 weeks per 20-21 season = total 140 days / 280 runs.

£10K | Equipment and testing
To help me to purchase, trial and test new kit and to optimise my equipment set up ahead of the Olympic year. Example costs are steel runners costing £700 per set, speed suit £1000, helmet £500.

£24K | Accommodation and subsistence
Supplying accommodation and subsistence for me and my coaching team at each training and race location throughout the whole season.

£15K | International travel
Travel costs, flight, equipment baggage costs, van and car hire.

In-kind sponsorship opportunities:

- Vehicle - short wheel base 3 seater / transit van type or similar in the UK for a loan between August 2021 and April 2022 to carry equipmnt for European-based travel
- Van and/or car hire in the US and Canada in winter - dates to be confirmed
- Extreme sports and travel insurance
- Wind tunnel testing
- Accommodation travel sponsorship Protective, winter, sports performance clothing
- Athlete nutrition - gluten free/ dairy free health foods.

Ultimately, achieving my financial goals will enable me to commit as a full-time athlete by training and racing internationally, and to position myself competitively for Olympic qualification in 2022. Importantly, it will enable me to attend pre-season training that will be a game-changer when races commence in October.

I invite you to jump headfirst with me as I take on this 2020/21 winter season! I am grateful for all donations large or small and every pound/dollar/shekel adds to more KPHs in the track!

Please leave your name for a shoutout on my social media - all names will be listed on my sponsors page (https://www.georginacohen.com/sponsors).

In pledges, I have reached 20% of my financial target for the Olympic qualification season of 2021/22. I have made it this far by partially self-financing and through the generous support of my parents and family, personal donations, and current sponsors. Covid has presented challenges in being able to reach the full amount I need, so I have kicked off this ongoing Go Fund Me campaign to help to get me closer to reaching my financial targets. I am grateful for each and every donation!

Biography

In October 2018, I began my journey with Bobsleigh Skeleton Israel (BSI) competing on the Europa Cup circuit. Little did I expect that four months later, I would be the first-ever female skeleton athlete to cross the finish line for Israel at a World Championships race.

Taking on the fastest and one of the most notoriously technical tracks in the world in Whistler, Canada, whilst coinciding with International Women’s Day 2019, is something that will stay with me forever. In 2019 I won a gold medal at the British Columbia Cup race in Whistler and received an Inspirational Performance Award at the Cambridge United Community Awards.

I’m originally from Cambridge UK. I grew up in a tiny village outside of Cambridge with a love for horses and to a Jewish family - my last name is Cohen, which gives it away a little bit - and we are members of the lovely Beth Shalom community. I studied languages at the University of Sheffield where I took up boxing. In my final year, I was the ladies boxing captain, where we grew the most female members out of all the clubs that year. A few years later I worked at Cambridge Judge Business School as Online Communications Officer and as the skeleton grew and grew, I made Aliyah and am now based in summer out of Tel Aviv Israel and Cambridge, UK in summer and travelling globally to where the ice takes me throughout the winter season.
