Support English Theatre for schools

Hi my name is Kristi-Anne Seth and I have a small, independent English theatre company called ‘The Phoenix Theatre’ based  in Germany. www.tpxt.de

I produce professional Native English speaking plays for schools, colleges and Universities throughout Germany (and neighbouring countries when possible). We perform to ages 8. - 18+ and form an important addition to young people's language learning development.

Unfortunately, the theatre industry has been hit incredibly hard by the Corona Virus and my  company is no exception. As a self-funded theatre we rely on performances for our revenue and due to the effects of Covid-19 my theatre has been severely hit financially.

I single handedly run The Phoenix Theatre and have have been touring German schools for 5 years now (previously with a co-owned theatre for 14 years) . For the younger years I write and produce English musicals on fun and educational topics and for ages 12-15 our performances are based around important teenage topics like body image, mental health issues, cyber-bullying and equality to name a few. Furthermore, since 2016 I have been the only theatre in education company in Germany to tour interactive Shakespeare adaptations performed by native English actors to secondary school and college/University students.

As the English language is incredibly important to German children to dramatically improve their job prospects, my shows are a valued part of their education and which is why I need your help. It is currently deemed unsafe for my actors to travel the country and perform in different schools every day meaning the company is receiving little to no income.

To be able to ride the storm and come out the other side I am turning to you good people to help us pull through. Your contribution will help with the running costs of the theatre (rent, insurances, auto rental, etc) and to pay the actors who work with /for me, who are also self-employed; but it will also mean that I will be able to keep my theatre business, my livelihood and that of everyone I work with.

Furthermore, as we are not allowed to perform in schools at the moment we want to invest in transposing our plays into digital performances; so that schools can watch our shows online. We need help to do this, as well as equipment and time. It's all new for us ; but we are determined to make it work.

If you can help, my team and I would be very grateful. I have been trying to keep everything  under control and pacing the company to be able to survive; but after seven months with the first lockdown and now again in November (which may get extended) I am seriously worried about my company. It isn't an exaggeration, but a reality that many people are facing.  I know it is hard for everyone at the moment; but is  particularly hard for artists. The show must go on and the sooner we receive financial help the better.

Perhaps I should give a bit more background about myself. :-) I am a native Englsih speaker, born in Boston, UK (not far from Cambridge). I studied Communication Studies in Sheffield, England before moving to The Netherlands to study “International Theatre & Education” in Utrecht, at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (graduating in Acting and Directing) and have worked in theatre and education on a regular basis ever since. I have been making English theatre for over 23 years for schools here in  Germany. I think you can see from my website that we enjoy the work we do and do our best to deliver high quality theatre to our audiences.

Please help us to help 'our' children grow, develop and join together to create a better world through theatre and language.

I thank you for your time and support.

Yours sincerely,
Kristi-Anne Seth

As artists we introduce audiences to theatre and culture; whilst at the same time educating them in the English language. We expose pupils to fun musicals such as ‘McVamp’, a vampire who hates blood and wants to open an ice-cream shop .

'McVamp' https://www.tpxt.de/gallery/mcvamp/

or ‘Saddle Up’, a cowboy musical, The Banana Gang, The Secret Box, Captain Jack, the list goes on.https://www.tpxt.de/gallery/saddle-up/
We also perform plays concerning important  themes such as cyber-bullying, divorce, mental health issues, eating disorders, etc.

We are also proud to introduce our audiences to our interactive Shakespeare plays including Twelfth Night,  Shakespeare’s Bottom, Richard III,

Macbeth https://www.tpxt.de/gallery/macbeth/
