Lucas Family Medical Fund

On October 17, 2020, my husband, Don Lucas, was admitted to the hospital for COVID-19. Five days later, he was placed in ICU as his lungs were struggling. Don was placed onto a ventilator on October 28, 2020, where he remains today.  Don continues to fight  for his life.

Our family is quickly being buried by medical bills.  Insurance will pay only so much.  My income has ceased and Don will quickly run through his sick leave.  When his sick leave ends, we will be without income.

My husband is well loved.  He retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections in 2012. Don still wanted to continue to work. He decided because of his love of children and teachingto begin substitute teaching at Plymouth Canton Community Schools.  His students adored him. Don has always been a mentor.  When a position opened for security with the school, Don stepped into that role.  He is loved by the staff and the students.  It wasn’t uncommon for us to run into students outside of work.  They always sought him out.  Mr. Lucas was “ the favorite”. His kind and compassionate ways are a magnet.  People of all ages found a true friend in Don. If you ask anyone who knows him what type ofperson he is, they will first say “ Kind”.  My husband always makes time, always has a listening ear, and is always there to help and mentor.

At this time, our family needs help.  We do not know the outcome of all of this.  Don is fighting hard and we are ready to wait as long as it takes to get him healthy and home.
