Not Just Coop Housing: radical change in N Ireland

Haymarket Housing Co-op are raising funds to purchase a new property. This will provide tenant controlled, affordable, sustainable and integrated housing for a small number of people in Northern Ireland. Ditching the landlord and giving tenants direct control over secure, affordable housing is pretty important for us. This project is that and so much more.
We are a radical co-operative and our name was chosen to recall an early point in the international working class struggle for the 8 hour day. We regard this as a first step in contributing to the strengthening of resistance to capital, sectarianism, racism, patriarchy and the state in the north of Ireland. Controlling our own housing is not an ends on its own. By reducing the precarity of being at the whim of the market, the banks, the landlord, we can strengthen our ability to resist and fight back.
In this way both members of the housing co-op and the society in which we live and act benefit from the success of this project. It will also provide an example of co-operation in action and of the ability of 'ordinary' people to take control of a fundamental aspect of their own lives.
In the near future we also aim to secure a permanent, affordable home, for Belfast's anarchist and radical bookshop, Just Books. Although currently homeless Just Books was established in 1978 Just Books has been a hub of counter cultural happenings, alternative ideas, organising and solidarity for over 40 years.
This gofundme campaign will be used to ensure that initial maintenance, purchases and fees associated with securing the property will be covered. We would be extremely grateful for your assistance with this project - particularly at a time when radical alternatives are more needed than ever.
