Stories that Move – Toolbox against discrimination is an award-winning free, ready-to-use online tool available in seven languages, helping youngsters think about diversity and inequality and reflect on their own choices and empowering them to act.

In two years it has reached thousands of educators across Europe – so now Erasmus+ has offered the project €500,000 to expand, provide international workshops and add a Spanish language version, potentially reaching a million students. But the award is conditional on co-funding money, which we no longer have due to Covid. We need to raise €150,000 ourselves. Visitor numbers in the Anne Frank House are down due to the pandemic, cutting our resources – but we have the expertise and the networks, and with your help we can increase the reach of Stories that Move.

Please donate to help the Anne Frank House educate against racism & discrimination. Together we can give teachers everywhere a tool to equip young people to embrace their diversity and fight discrimination in all its forms.

Young, diverse and empowered

How does Stories that Move work?

Learners are invited to explore their own relationship with antisemitism, racism, and discrimination against LGBT+, Muslims and Roma – issues throughout Europe, inside classrooms and out.

In short film clips young people from many countries share their experiences of exclusion, discrimination and hate crimes. Their voices are at the core of the learning paths. The approach is inclusive: each story counts. The collected stories are diverse and offer a framework and starting point to talk about identity and discrimination.

The toolbox offers teachers five ready-to-use learning paths with multiple layers of attractive, engaging information and assignments.

For a short impression watch: Stories that Move

"The power of the tool is that it makes the topic personal. Students are emotionally moved. Sometimes they want to carry on through lunch to finish the assignment. That’s pretty special, isn’t it?"   Laurens Vels, teacher

Difficult questions. No easy answers

Educators say they feel ‘better equipped to have the difficult and necessary discussions around discrimination with their students’ and that students have ‘better understanding of how prejudice affects other people’s feelings’.

Medine and Laurens are two of the many young people who told their stories and helped develop the online tool.

The future

What will your donation pay for?

With the money raised we aim to reach 20,000 teachers and through them a million students. It costs us €35 to reach a teacher, to provide the free materials and the skills to safely open up group discussion about the complex and sensitive issues related to discrimination. There will be a special focus on youth leaders and international school exchanges.

The funding is needed for:

-        Webinars, online courses and professional development seminars by educational institutions in eight countries over three years
-        Technical innovation of the online tool
-        Ongoing support for educators
-        Spanish language version of the project (translation and CMS)
-        New stories (videos) with role models from Spain, Slovakia and Poland
-        Designing new lessons for exchange programmes
-        Coordination and outreach to teachers by partner institutions in Austria, Germany, Hungary,   Poland, Slovakia, Spain, The Netherlands and Ukraine
-        International coordination of the project, including train the trainer workshops

The partners  in the project:

Anne Frank House (The Netherlands), Anne Frank Zentrum (Germany), International School Amsterdam (The Netherlands), Eagerly Internet (The Netherlands), Erinnern.at (Austria), Faculty of Education University of Barcelona (Spain), Krzyzowa Foundation (Poland), Milan Simecka Foundation (Slovakia), SparkOptimus (The Netherlands), Tolerspace (Ukraine), Zachor Foundation (Hungary)

The Anne Frank House would like to thank the large team of volunteers working on this campaign for their commitment and creativity. Special thanks go to the students and teachers of the International School of Amsterdam and the Gerrit van der Veen College for their contribution to the promotional film.

The Anne Frank House is a registered charity. Your donation may therefore be tax deductible.

NEDERLANDS:

Hoe werkt Stories that Move?

Mach dir selbst ein Bild: Stories that Move

Was passiert mit deiner Spende?

Joven, diversa y emancipada

¿Cómo funcionan Stories that Move?

Laurens Vels, docente

Preguntas difíciles. Respuestas no tan fáciles.

-        Seminarios y cursos en línea y presenciales sobre desarrollo profesional, impartidos durante tres años por institutos de formación en ocho países;
-        Innovación técnica de la herramienta en línea;
-        Apoyo continuo a los docentes;
-        edición en español (traducción y sistema de gestión de contenido CMS);
-        Nuevas historias (vídeos) con modelos a seguir de España, Eslovaquia y Polonia;
-        Desarrollo de nuevas clases para los programas de intercambio;
-        Coordinación e información para los docentes de institutos asociados en Austria, Alemania, Hungría, Polonia, Eslovaquia, España, Países Bajos y Ucrania;
