We are a small outdoor farm in a place most probably never heard of, Trinity County. Due to the recent August Complex fires our humble farm has been devastated. The sun being blocked by smoke caused our crops to flower before time and be stunted. Evacuations caused a lot of farmers to have to leave in a hurry. Many of our plants died, or were strained from the smoke and not being able to water. The results were a limited, and damaged harvest. Our processing center was completely wiped out. We also had a duty to test for any contaminants from fire damage to ensure the safety of our customers. Especially, since there are many who consume that are medical patients and may have underlining conditions. Sadly, the majority of our product came back with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and heavy metals. This makes it not safe for consumption. Smoke may cause false positives on tests. We decided to do a retest, only to receive the same results. The product that didn’t burn down for the most part, was damaged from smoke and ash. The remaining product has lost aroma and developed a strong smoke type flavor. Way below our standards, and the standard our customers are used to getting from us. Rendering almost our entire harvest a loss. Over 500,000 dollars. We depend on our harvest for the 7 of us and our families to live during the year, and to have enough to produce for the following year. Farming in this region is what a lot of its community depends on. A lot of farmers here only get one big harvest. Especially outdoor growers. Even a lot of greenhouses, since it costs a lot to operate in the winter months. This in turn only allows for one big harvest for most, a year. That’s where most of the community’s income is generated for the whole year. This year especially, many in our community are facing hardship and need help now. Many have lost their only source of income. Due to prop. 64, it was already increasingly difficult for small farms and farmers. Some may not make it through these unavoidable circumstances. We are hoping that you can find it in your hearts, to help us and others rebuild to stay in business. Many of these farms have been handed down through many generations and are family legacies. Many have families that have no other means to survive. We hope that you can donate to our cause. Even if you cannot donate, please pass it along to your friends and family. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any support you may provide. We hope that you and your family are safe, since there is another complication with COVID-19 to deal with as well. This is a difficult time for all, but together we can get through anything. Thank you for your time and bless you for stopping by and taking an interest. We cannot figure out how to post more pics. So we are putting them in the updates section. Thanks again.
