Eco-Just Food Network Winter 2020 Costs

Donation protected
The Eco-Just Food Network is a grassroots network of households, communities, local organizations and small scale food providers dedicated to creating a resilient local, just and ecological healthy food system. We are committed to making good healthy food available for everyone who needs to eat and to reduce food waste in the system.

Visit our website

The Eco-Just Food Network (EJFN) will train and mobilize youth and community members to form a skilled Food Corps that will assist ecological farmers, small scale food processors (e.g. cheese makers) and vulnerable communities to grow, harvest, process and access healthy food.

Food providers will get the skilled labour they need to grow, harvest, process and distribute healthy food.

Community members will develop valuable skills, be duly compensated, have access to fair shares of the food being produced and help distribute healthy food to communities most at risk and low-waged essential workers.

How the EJFN works

EJFN formed in the spring of 2020. So far, we have organized a few successful farm work trips with St. Jamestown community residents (including youth) and local farmers in York and Peel Regions. EJFN will use the winter to scale up for the next growing season.

We have very little resources, save for our hope and determination.

We are hoping this GoFundMe campaign can help us cover some of our budget for the coming winter. Our goal is to have the network up and running with the most essential functions by the start of the next growing season.

We want to be ready for whatever 2021 brings.

Winter 2020-21 Budget (in order of priority)

– Social Media Ads: $50
– Gas for Farm Work Trips/Training: $250
– Bus Rental: $2000
– Per Diems for Farm Trainers/Workers: $10,000
– Food Corps/Time Bank Coordinator stipend: $2500
– Work Supplies: $1500 (work gloves, rubber boots, hats, handkerchiefs, water bottles)

If you want to join us in creating a local resilient and just food system in the Greater Toronto Area (and beyond!), we welcome you!

If you prefer to support in small but meaningful ways, we would appreciate it too  :-)

Thank you for your time and efforts - a little does a lot!

The Eco-Just Food Network is being organized by the St. Jamestown Community Coop-OASIS Food Hub, St. Jamestown community members, Conscious Minds Coop, National Farmers Union of Ontario - Local 305, Afri-Can Food Basket and local ecological farmers in York and Peel Regions, among others.
