Helping an unhoused Gunn grad in Palo Alto

Donation protected
As a 2015 Gunn grad myself, I recognized Dallas when he was walking through my Barron Park neighborhood a couple of times in the last year. I knew his sister, Crystal, who did Gunn Track and Field with me for a year and who sadly passed away in 2018 from cancer. Dallas always looked harmless and possibly homeless, but I figured he was kind of just doing his own thing in our peaceful Barron Park neighborhood.

As I was on a walk last night, I noticed a man in a yellow hoodie sitting on the steps of the Gunn tennis courts. I recognized that it was Dallas, and struck up a conversation with him since I knew his sister and knew he was in a tough position.

Let me tell you from the bottom of my heart that 26-year-old Dallas is one of the most loving, harmless, and beautiful people I have ever met. He graduated from Gunn in 2012, and shortly after moving out and working to do his art he had to come home and take care of his sick sister and then his sick mother, who both passed away from cancer, leaving him with only his brother in the area, who is not in a position to support him.
His father lives in Texas and talks to him somewhat often, sending some money too, but Dallas does not have a stable living situation at the moment.

Nevertheless, he is passionate about art, life, people, and beautiful things. He does not have much art to show for his passion, but he took lots of art classes at Gunn, likes to paint (especially water scenery with blue tones he says), and has done sculpture work too. He says he wants to one day be an art teacher so that he can experience the joy of helping young artistic children express themselves.

Upon completion of the campaign, all funds raised will be managed in a dedicated bank account for Dallas that will pay for:

• Housing and a stable living situation
• Medical services
• Educational and professional coaching
• Groceries, transportation, and personal item expenses

Thank you for your help everybody. I have never met someone who has stayed so strong and positive in the face of such life tragedies. Your help is greatly appreciated ❤️
