UNICEF was founded in 1946 to help children in countries devastated by World War II. Now operating in more than 190 countries and territories, it has helped save more young lives than any other humanitarian organization. Its world-changing work is sustained solely by voluntary contributions. Our club is affiliated with UNICEF USA. Founded in 1947, UNICEF USA is the oldest of 33 worldwide National Committees for UNICEF. Together the national committees raise approximately one-third of the operational budget of UNICEF. UNICEF USA works for the survival, protection, and development of children worldwide through advocacy, education, and fundraising for UNICEF's work.
By donating your money to UNICEF, you can help children go to school, infants get vaccinated, and pregnant women receive the care you need. For every dollar that you give, 89 cents goes towards helping children. The other 11 cents are used on fundraising costs and on the administration. In 2019, 5.2 million children under the age of 5, and 1 million adolescents died from a preventable cause. Not only this, but for every 13 seconds, a newborn baby died, and for every hour, 33 women passed away from childbirth. 43% of schools worldwide, last year, lacked the basic handwashing facilities, soap, and water - essentials to preventing the spread of COVID-19.  This year, an additional 6.7 million children under the age of five could become dangerously undernourished as a result of the pandemic's socio-economic impact.
