Help The Spot replace stolen equipment

Donation protected
On September 30th, 2020 the Old Town Mission Community Center (OTMCC) was robbed. Someone forced entry into the OTMCC (home of The SPOT) and stole all the electronics, video, stage lighting, projectors and sound equipment we use for our programs at the Center. Just as we were looking ahead to COVID-19-safe happenings to get our youth and other community members through the pandemic, those abilities were taken away due to the break-in.

This means we are unable to provide our fun, free and educational community events (including virtual events) that mean so much to all of us. Teen dance nights, karaoke, educational forums, after-school programming, youth support groups, fundraisers … so many amazing events are negatively impacted by this robbery. Our COVID-19-safe event planning is now on hold.

No video/movie nights, no sound for international dinners/meetings/karaoke, no stage lighting for dances, no microphones for karaoke. Musical instruments and a Mac desktop computer were also stolen. Our art supplies were trashed. We want to be able to replace these items but the total replacement cost does not quite equal the insurance deductible of $5000.00.

That's where you come in. Can you help us with a donation towards the cost of replacement? You will be making it possible, right in our neighborhood on the west side, for our youth and others to have a low-cost and COVID-19-safe place to gather (including virtually) for events, classes and meetings, both educational and fun.

Please consider being a part of this effort. Thank you!  All donations are tax deductible. Please contact the Las Vegas Peace & Justice Center at [phone redacted] for any questions.

In the meantime, here are some thoughts about the place and its importance.

"The SPOT at Old Town Mission Community Center was one of the first introductions we United World College-USA students had to the beautiful city of Las Vegas, New Mexico. I learned, by meeting folks at The SPOT, to love the people who live here. Dancing with kids at ‘Friday Night Funs’ and chatting with local folks over slices of JC's pizza was so much fun. The robbery and vandalism at the SPOT is devastating for so many people - to the UWC community, to local youth, and to the many visitors who enjoy the Old Town Mission Community Center for such a wide variety of activities. Becoming a co-leader for the UWC ExEd at the SPOT was one of the most fulfilling decisions I have made and I really hope that soon we can return to our old building and enjoy it as we previously did.”
