Mr. Albert of Capt. Bill's

Mr. Albert Cowan was the mainstay of Capt. Bill's from the early 1960s, and more recently, welcomed guests to Southern Salt, where fresh local seafood still has a home on the Morehead City waterfront. Mr. Albert is the man we can thank for many beloved local recipes, including his famous Conch Stew on Wednesdays (secret ingredient, a dash of Worcestershire sauce).  He is also well-known for his dreamy “Down East Lemon Pie”. If you have ever tasted it, you'll never forget it!  The White House even phoned Capt. Bill's one day, asking for the recipe.

Mr. Albert needs our help now. He contracted COVID in July, and despite a full recovery from that, he isn't well enough to return to work.  So many of us know and love him. I know many of you would like to offer your best wishes and support at this time, especially those who loved Capt. Bill's and those who worked there. We hope to see Mr. Albert back on the waterfront soon. ❤️

Relationship to Albert: Our parents (Ken and Dawn Newsom) used to own Capt. Bill's restaurant, where Albert was the head chef and 'king of the kitchen' for 40+ years.
How the funds will be spent: The fundraiser is to give Mr Albert Cowan and his family funds to replace income, as he has been unable to work since his illness.
Withdrawal plan: We have invited Albert's wife to be the beneficiary of the account, so she will be the one withdrawing funds from this fundraiser into their bank account.
