Santa For Seniors South Saskatchewan Fundraiser

Santa for Seniors Project Inc. is a unique, non-profit, outreach program based in Regina, Saskatchewan, and serving senior citizens throughout Southern Saskatchewan. We are 100% volunteer based.

Our hope is to raise enough money for all of the seniors in each home to get at least a small gift that they could open and share on Christmas day, like one large family.  Our minimum campaign is based on $10/senior in funds so the homes have the money to coordinate a Merry Christmas for everyone.
  
But, feel free to help us raise much, much  more, and show the seniors how much we care!


We are expecting to support over 2300 seniors and 25 homes this year!



 What We Do
Founded in 2010, Santa for Seniors is focused on improving the lives of senior citizens in our communities at Christmas time. We work with senior care homes in Regina and Southern Saskatchewan to identify seniors that may not receive a gift at Christmas.  Often these individuals are underprivileged, or no longer have living family members or friends nearby.

In a normal year, we have the care homes prepare a list of the seniors, along with their requests for gifts.  The lists are then made available to the pubic, and volunteers take names and purchase gifts.  Gifts are then delivered by volunteers to the various homes in the week leading up to Christmas, and are handed out by the staff in the homes on or around Christmas day.  Since the program started, we have delivered over 10,000 gifts!

With the help of the public we now provide over 2,200 gifts per year for Saskatchewan seniors.  Most requests are for very simple gifts; a sweater, socks, body wash, shampoo or treats. In the less fortunate homes some of the residents have trouble even affording these basic items, so to them it is a huge surprise!  Also, starting in 2015, we expanded the program beyond just seniors who would not normally receive a gift.  To that end, we now provide gifts to all of the seniors in a home that participate so they can each receive and open gifts together.  This allows the entire care home to share in the joy of the season as one large family, and experience the excitement of everyone opening gifts together. 


However, this has been anything but a normal year, as everyone knows....
Due to Covid19 restrictions, we are not able to arrange for the thousands of gifts we would normally provide.  We have been advised that homes are not able to accept and store gifts in large numbers, and we are not willing to risk the public and our volunteers by coordinating thousands of contacts for gifts to be dropped off and delivered.


Nevertheless, it is even more important this year to show seniors they are remembered and loved, so we have chosen to go online to raise funds to donate to each home in order to allow them to purchase gifts, and do whatever they can to make Christmas special for their residents.  Funds may also be used at the discretion of each home towards other recreational programs and purchases such as games and items for the seniors.

We are a registered non-profit organization in Saskatchewan, but not a charity, so we are not able to issue tax-receipts.
