In Memory of John Folsom Cloutman

We are reaching out to friends and family on behalf of our beloved Kaye Cloutman who urgently needs our help since her husband, John Folsom Cloutman recently died of stage 4 Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer leaving behind his wife, 13-year-old son Johnny and 22-year-old daughter Karmela.

As a background, John and Kaye met via an online portal in December 2004, fell in love and on January 2, 2006, got married in Manila, Philippines. In her life so far, Kaye had to undergo serious medical challenges, having been born in Manila, Philippines in November 1975 with an unusual congenital heart defect with no known cure or corrective medical procedure in her country at that time. In September 2008, after giving birth in a high risk pregnancy to Johnny in July 2007, she had her first corrective open-heart surgery at Stanford Hospital due to her ailment called Eisenmenger syndrome. The family was told that there had not been a known mother and child with this kind of heart defect in the state and probably the US who had survived pregnancy much less giving birth. Her case and miraculous survival became the impetus for the hospital to conduct research and learn more of the disease and develop medical procedures to help mothers with the same condition in the future. Then in December 2013, Kaye had to undergo another open-heart surgery with enhanced medical procedures which helped her much in living a normal life despite her congenital heart condition then and until the present. In 2015, Kaye had an additional surgery for sudden painful adipose tissue adhesions in her lower abdomen.

With a fragile heart, Kaye still managed to be a wonderful loving wife, a hands-on mother, and an amazing Editor-In-Chief with a pioneering vision for Gastronomique En Vogue, a food and fashion magazine that she founded in 2010. With the support and love of John and devoted hard work of talented friends, the magazine flourished and is a by word in the subject genre and Kaye's advocacy in the Bay Area.

But life took another turn on November 30, 2016, when Kaye suffered a stroke which she fortunately survived, but which caused her to develop Aphasia for which she is undergoing speech rehabilitation therapy at Sutter Tracy Hospital. During all this time, John was not only a loving and doting husband and father but was also her caregiver, sole provider, and ROCK. Kaye's substantial medical expenses were covered by the insurance of John since he was gainfully employed.

On September 26, 2020, lightning struck the family yet another time - John was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer which had metastasized to the liver and part of his lungs. The doctor gave him 6 months to live. John immediately got his affairs together by hiring a lawyer to draft a Living Trust. However, close to midnight on November 6, 2020, while starting to go through painful and debilitating chemotherapy, John was rushed to the hospital and passed away after two resuscitative medical procedures failed an hour later.

Due to his sudden and unexpected demise less than 2 months from discovery of his pancreatic cancer, he was not able to complete and sign the Living Trust which leaves Kaye with no access to his bank accounts and assets. John's death has punctured a hole in her fragile heart, yet, despite all the adversity Kaye has experienced, she is a dedicated survivor who will never ever give up, thanks to her indomitable Faith, and love and  life mission for her children, especially for her very promising and bright young son.

In light of this, we are reaching out to all of you to help Kaye with her mortgage and living expenses for 6 months and the funeral expenses. Our goal is to raise $30k and we hope that you will find it in your hearts to be a blessing to a woman who never deserved any of these tribulations, yet continues to weather it all with such dignity and determination. Together we can be a beacon of hope.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

*Update: Due to her speech and communication disability, Kaye has entrusted her Uncle Nicomedes or Nick Yadao to help manage donations.
