Charles Young Foundation

The Charles Young Foundation is raising money  to educate the public on the legacy, rich history and the contributions of Colonel Charles Young who served with the United States Army Buffalo Soldiers 9th and 10th cavalries from 1889 until his death in 1922.

NOTE: These funds will NOT go  toward  salary nor any overhead or bills outside of services and material for the mission.

The Charles Young foundation is committed to enhancing quality of life within our communities by promoting and supporting the education of mental health safety and awareness within inner city youth, First Responders and Military Veterans, specifically in the areas of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress), CTSD (Continued Traumatic Stress) and TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) through charitable, educational and financial projects that will serve and support the community.

The funds will be partially used to sponsor group treatment through the Power Of Me program. P.O.M provides an environment that supports communication around the topic of trauma. First Responders, veterans, and inner-city youth who have been exposed to trauma come together with a common goal. By sharing their exposure, survival, and often continued existence in violent and hostile environments they strive to cope by discussing and processing their trauma. Together they develop and share coping skills, identify strengths, and examine how to channel those skills to benefit themselves as well as our community.

The second phase of the funding will go back out into the community byway of grants. The Charles Young Foundation is a community-based organization serving Lucas County, northwest Ohio, and southeast Michigan with an emphasis on Lucas County. The Charles Young Foundation provides an assortment of opportunities in which corporations, organizations, and citizens may bestow gifts in any amount to help meet the varying needs within our community. These contributions allow the Charles Young Foundation to support and empower other community organizations by providing grant opportunities in the areas of education, mental health, social justice, and public service.

With in the third pillar a portion of the funding will help continue the preservation of Colonel Charles Youngs accomplishments and contributions to the foundation, and history of these United States of America. Through community outreach the Charles Young Foundation will educate the public on his legacy and rich history. Through collaboration and partnerships, the CYF will also liaison, promote and support community based organizations devoted to education, public service and social justice.

We are looking to secure funding by August of 2021.

This is personal for me. I grew up in inner-city Toledo and survived my share of trauma. I am also a first responder that continue s to endure trauma. As a result I have been diagnosed with PTSD and CTSD. Almost every day I see signs, symptoms and evidence that our inner-city youth and our first responders are suffering with no one to turn to. So instead they self medicate, turn violent, or just shutdown and give in.

This funding could possibly help us have to knock on a few less doors to inform loved ones of the worst. This funding will help children surviving within trauma to obtain the support, and copping skill needed to become a productive member of our community.  This funding will allow First Responders to come together with inner-city youth and begin a much needed healing process.

I am so thankful for the opportunity to share, thank you again.
