Emerald City Boxing Gym was a dream brought to life by myself (Chloe) and my husband Russell. We were able to start ECBG thanks to an amazing community of friends, mentors, and family in August 2017.
On March 15, 2020 we shut down due to a Washington state order to help stop the spread of COVID-19. What started as a two week shut down lasted three months. We were able to reopen our doors in June 2020 with extremely limited capacity under intense restrictions. We struggled. Although federal, state, and local governments offered relief for small businesses, the funds were not enough. We received only one government grant for $1,000 despite applying for everything that was made available to us.
Throughout the summer we were lucky enough to stay open only thanks to our community and a fundraiser we held in the spring. Coronavirus restrictions continued to impact our small business. As of November 17, 2020 we are going to be closing our doors again for at least 4 weeks. Our facility does not have a parking lot or a space for us to offer outdoor fitness. We will continue to offer virtual fitness classes and strive to find a location for outdoor fitness classes and lessons. In the meantime, we must ask for your help today in keeping our gym in business. We have been so fortunate thus far and we owe our friends, family, members, and supporters everything. I truly believe that what we offer at our gym is unique to us. Those of you who know Russell attest to his ability to teach boxing and make you feel comfortable doing it all while having a great time. We know this gym is our calling and we know we can make this work with your help. We’re willing to put in all the effort to make it through another shut down.
We take COVID-19 very seriously and have followed all guidelines and capacity limits to this point to ensure the safety and health of our members. We recognize the importance in doing so and we’re happy to have done our part.
