Anthony and Angie fell in love, not knowing his ex-girlfriend was pregnant. When the daughter was born, Anthony and Angie had only limited access to her. The two married soon after.
Anthony had a hard but happy life. He was a radio telegraph operator and then an information technology specialist in the National Guard and then active duty Army. He served his country well both in uniform and as a civil servant with Top Secret clearance. After years of neglect by her biological mother, Anthony and Angie were able to get full-time custody of Anthony’s daughter, Megan. However, Megan had special needs that weren’t addressed. She suffered from autism, oppositional defiant disorder, and cognitive delays. Taking jobs as a nanny and occasional housekeeper enabled Angie to spend time with Megan.
Megan improved greatly under Angie’s care and the help of counseling. By the age of 22, Megan was able to hold some part time jobs and continued to progress until the day her life abruptly ended.
Megan was on her way to a day program when the driver of her vehicle fell asleep, wandered over the centerline, and had a fatal crash. The driver survived. He was high on marijuana at the time of the crash. Megan had multiple internal injuries and did not survive.
