Raising urgent funds for a new breeding centre

The world's ONLY Wild Camel Breeding Centre

Can you help us?

The Wild Camel Protection Foundation (WCPF) is raising money to protect the critically endangered wild two humped camel from extinction and to conserve its rare desert habitat in the Great Gobi. Every donation will be used in Mongolia.  The wild camel is currently being shown in Sir David Attenborough's TV series, A Perfect Planet along with the work the WCPF are doing to help protect this species of camel.

The WCPF is the only foundation in the world solely committed to protecting the critically endangered wild camel, and its rare desert habitat in the Gobi deserts of China and Mongolia. The wild camel was pronounced to be a new and separate species of camel, which separated from any other known form of camel over 700,000 years ago. No longer was it to be called Camelus bactrianus ferus – but simply Camelus ferus. It is as different from the domestic Bactrian camel as we are from the chimpanzee. No one knows for certain but, given that it separated from any known form of camel over 700,000 years ago, it could be the ancestor of all camels – both the one-humped and the two.

The wild camel is the ultimate survivor. It is man that has forced the Chinese wild camels into the very heart of the Gashun Gobi (the Bitter Desert) and Lop Nur. Here it survives on saltwater with a higher content of salt than seawater in an otherwise waterless area of more than 200,000 square kilometres. The wild camel has also survived over 43 atmospheric nuclear tests, some more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. Many scientists consider the ability of the wild camel to drink saltwater which no other mammal will touch, and their survival in the face of nuclear annihilation to warrant intensive scientific study. The wild camel might hold secrets that could be of immense value to man as we enter into an uncertain future.

The wild camels need universal support, and the WCPF, the only organisation in the world with the sole aim of protecting the incredible wild camel, is doing its utmost to ensure extinction is never allowed. In Mongolia the WCPF has established a world first,  a successful wild camel breeding centre in the Great Gobi ‘ A ‘ Area of Special Protection near where the last wild remnant population of wild camels live.

The WCPF are now seeking to raise funds to establish a second wild camel breeding centre at Toli Bulag in Mongolia, as the original breeding centre has reached capacity. The basic cost of a strong wire and fence construction is £55,000 (GBP). Moving the camels from one site to another will cost £15,000 (GBP). Ontop of this we have the other costs such as a "ger" accommodation for staff and a permanent office structure outside the perimeter of the fence.

Your DONATION as you can see, is greatly appreciated.

THANK YOU.
