Help Us Hire a PI to Stop a Kitten Killer

Donation protected
Hello everyone, today I tell you a bittersweet story about the kitten I allowed to escape the safety of my arms and into the hands of a kitten killer.

I had posted an ad on Craigslist about a kitten being up for adoption, and someone responded to it asking for her. At first I wasn't sure whether or not to give it to this person, but after a while he made some stories about how COVID has really made it tough for him and how having a kitten would keep him up from depression. Being someone who has suffered depression myself I fully understood the need for an animal companion, especially in these trying times. So, I gave him the kitten I was caring for. A few days later I asked for updated pictures of her, asked how she was settling in. I only got vague responses. "She is fine". I asked for a picture, but none was offered. I asked him if she was alright, ignored again. I even offered to give him $300 for my cat back, and he said "you made this awkward, I'll talk to you later". Haven't heard back since. He had told me he bought her toys, a scratching post, food, litter, everything, the whole bit. I bought it, thinking he would care for her.

Skip a few weeks forward and I have another kitten posted on Craigslist, this time as a lure to see if he would respond, asking for it. It works! "Do you have the kitten available?" he asked. "I have toys, litter, and food for her I just bought. Would you happen to have 2 kittens? I want them to keep each other company" (he has no idea he is talking to me since craigslist makes your email anonymous, so I play along). I asked him if he had any other animals, either in his house or before and he said "No, first time cat owner". This same person, that asked me weeks before for 2 kittens, is asking for 2 more kittens, and who knows how many people he is reaching out to.

This guy used the same story he used on me before, and I can't believe how I fell for it. Being honest with myself, I know my beloved Chess is gone, but I need to protect other animals from him. When I tried calling the police they said "Unless you have any evidence, we can't do anything. Shady communication isn't illegal". But when I contacted a PI he said he could follow this guy, find out everything about him and follow him from sun up to sun down, and find out where and what he is doing with these kittens.

This is no longer about getting my Chess back, but about saving other animals. Out of this sadness, out of losing the kitten that depended on me for its life, will come the satisfaction that this guy will be put behind bars and whatever he is connected to exposed. This is about justice for all the kittens and possibly, other animals, that have lost their life to this sick bastard. I have fostered over 5 litters, and each one was successfully given away to a safe, loving home. But this one will forever haunt me, for no amount of blame will make me hate myself more than I already do.  I want to get this guy off the streets and prevent more animals from being lured into their deaths.

You might be wondering "how do you know this guy is doing bad things to kittens?" How hard is it to send 1 picture of an adopted animal to the original owner? Why does this guy keep asking for kittens and each time, claims he has never owned a cat before? Why does he use the SAME story for every potential adoption? Why would he not make it clear that I am worried for the cats health and safety and just do me the favor and respond with a simple picture? Someone who keeps asking for kittens and using the same story, and claiming he has no pets every time is very worrying. This is why I want to hire a PI, to see what he is doing with these kittens, and even though I may never see mine again, I am hoping to prevent anyone else from losing their beloved pets.

The PI is offering a flat rate fee of $2500.

And to Chess, my beloved kitten. I love you. I'm so sorry I let this happen. I truly thought I was giving you to a good home, or else I wouldn't have given you away. I know I always made fun of your raspy meows, but god what I would do to hear them again. Thank you for being a wonderful kitten, and I hope I gave you the best life I could offer. Where ever you are, I hope you are safe and annoying everyone with those raspy meows.
