Titus and the Miracle Cure for a New Life

Donation protected
Titus is the middle child of three boys and has a loving family.  He is the humor, the entertainer, and loving troublemaker of the boys.  He loves Star Wars, only the Dark Side lol, The Amazing World of Gumball, and enjoys reading, video games and all the things most kids love.  Unfortunately he was born with Sickle Cell Anemia, a blood disease that keeps him out of breath, tired often, and causes excruciating pain in his joints and muscles.  These episodes are called Pain Crises and require hospitalization and the administering of morphine to help with pain, oxygen for breathing, and several other medications to help his body recover.

Titus is a "frequent flyer" at the hospital where he is admitted every 2-3 months for several days.  This has placed a heavy burden on his siblings and parents but as a family we have always surrounded Titus with unconditional love and support.  We have also been blessed by so many friends to rally behind us and help with food, transportation, child care, and so many other needs.

At his most recent pain crisis episode in October, his hematologist gave us some great news.  Due to the extreme nature of his disease and the constant health complications, Titus qualifies for a Bone Marrow Transplant!  This is the only known cure for Sickle Cell Disease and has been effective on dozens of other patients.  This will give him a new lease on life and allow him to have childhood experiences that were impossible before, like playing sports, spending a day at the pool, building a snow man, or just running with friends outside.

The medical staff at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill are very excited about his procedure because not only has it proven effective, but Titus' older brother, Tyenn, is a full donor match!  Siblings have a 25% chance of being a close match, so Tyenn being a full match is a miracle in itself.  The transplant will require outpatient surgery for Tyenn, and a 6-8 week hospitalization for Titus, including constant monitoring, MRI's, CAT scans, a surgery to place a central line in his chest, and chemotherapy.  After this, Titus will never have to deal with Sickle Cell Disease again!  He will need months of nursing care at home and therapy to help his body recover but he will have a new pain-free life!

This is where you can be a part of his journey.  The medical costs of the procedure are immense, along with the transportation, medications, nursing care, and other auxiliary expenses.  We are in need of a large community to come along side us to help with hospital bills, child care needs, special transports, hotel stays, hospital parking and food, etc.  Thank you for taking the time to read and learn a little bit about Titus.  Here is a video in his own words: https://youtu.be/__tLaTKz1_4.

We truly appreciate your support and would love for you to be a part of his journey.  If you are able to share his story with your community we are grateful for that.  If you are able to contribute to this campaign, you are truly making a difference in his life and the life of his family.
