Be a PPE Hero! Vital Protective Equipment

**UPDATE 28/10/20:

Thanks to everyone who donated to our campaign. Thanks to your support, we have been able to produce over 6,000 items to date, with most of these already out there being used.

We're currently considering our options for the next few months, as whilst PPE demand seems to have mostly been met, we have a sense that the winter could prove difficult, especially for vulnerable people and the numbers are starting to rise.

As such, whilst we have been slowing our operation down, we've stocked up for a second wave and are discussing the needs of a few local groups that deal with particularly vulnerable people.

We've been absolutely blown away by the support we've had, when we set out to raise £200 to cover the material and postage costs we were incurring, we had an ambitious stretch goal of getting enough funds to buy one additional machine, we've now received enough to buy three, meaning that the rate we've been able to produce items is substantially higher and we've felt confident in offering support to help larger organisations!

A massive and heart-felt thanks to everyone who has supported us so far, we've had incredible and often heart-breaking feedback about how valuable these items are and how short supplies are, we would not have been able to do this without you and we plan to keep on doing this for as long as there is a need!

If anybody knows of any groups who have a need for these items, please feel free to get in touch and we'll take care of it!

PPE Support for Key Workers:

With the outbreak of the Corona Virus, we have converted our kitchen into a makeshift factory 3D printing Face Shields and 'Ear Savers', to distribute free to NHS Staff and other key workers, who have an urgent need for this equipment.

What have we produced so far?

So far we have produced close to 6,000 items, with close to all of these of these already delivered to Doctors, Nurses, Carers, Teachers, Ambulance Crews, Charities and other organisations working on the frontline, with more batches being prepared to be shipped out every other day. Most items have been posted but we've also been delivering local items directly (contact free of course).

Part of our very first batch (produced with assistance from Simon Clarke)

We are currently producing a mix of the following items:

 'Hero' Ear Savers:

Wearing a face mask for more than a few minutes at a time can be uncomfortable and claustrophobic, ear savers are clips designed to sit behind the wearer's head, with the straps from the mask lopped through them, taking the pressure off of the ears and face, whilst not compromising the mask's protection. We have chosen a design with the word 'Hero' printed into the back, reminding our Key Workers that we truly appreciate the work they do.

Verkstan Face Shields:

A full front face shield designed to protect the whole of the wearer's face, keeping fluids and droplets away from the eyes and face (usually intended to be worn alongside a standard mask and ear saver).

Simple Mask Savers:

A simpler, smaller, ear-saver design, we have been producing these in overnight runs whilst the printer is unattended to ensure we are outputting equipment constantly. Whilst slightly smaller, these still provide great support and are more suitable for users with ponytails.

What is the funding for?

Any and all funding received will be used to expand our production, purchasing additional material (printer filament, elastic, acetate) and to cover the costs of shipping and distributing the items once complete.

To get up and running, we purchased two Sovol SV01 3D printers and the 3D Printing Filament required to produce our first and second batches, as well as all the surface preparation and cleaning materials/tools needed to service the machines, which we have paid for ourselves outside of this fundraiser, with no intention of recouping these costs through donations.

If this fundraiser does particularly well, we may purchase an additional printing machine, which will either be donated to a local STEM organisation at the end of this crisis, or sold and a donation made to to an NHS Charity.

*** Update - we've now raised enough funds to buy THREE machines, which will make a massive difference to how much equipment we can supply. As before, these machines will be donated at the end of the project, so that every penny contributed will have made a difference! Thank you!

What do people get for donating?

Every single penny will be used to ensure a constant flow of vital equipment into the hands of those who need it and we  will be posting regular updates on our deliveries over the course of the crisis.

For any donations over £20, we would like to do a little extra and send a special card out alongside the batch with your name on, letting the recipients know who has supported them in getting the PPE. We'll also be asking recipients to share photos of them using the equipment, so you'll know your funds have gone to great use!

Thank you for reading our Story, we truly appreciate any support you can give us in achieving the maximum possible distribution of equipment we can!
