Gary A ,Jacobi Sr, is a Vietnam veteran, a US Bronze Star and Air Medal recipient. Gary has been suffering from cancer for 2 years. He has been in a coma for 3 months. He lives in Nong Khai, Thailand, with his Laotian wife of 17yrs, Tookta Inthavong, at their rented bungalow. Garys wife is struggling to take care of him, as you can see from the pictures. This man should be in a hospital, but he has no health insurance. There are no friends or family to assist Tookta. He is on a ventilator, catheter, and IV drip. The IV drip his wife must buy almost daily. However she is from a poor background, and the couple are not what you would call rich by any means oif the word.
The reason why we have approached GofundMe is because Gary's USA bank account has been locked , aand the bank wont give access until they talk to Gary, and him in a coma. Now they want lawyers . Therefore his wife can not access his Social Security, and personal funds, to use for his daily medical care. Indeed, his wife has borrowed money from her own poor family to keep the situation going.
I do not know Gary, but was asked to help, I am a volunteer for the US Embassy.
A Kiwi friend, Maaka, has also been helping. Tookta has also been receiving help from the Catholic Charity in Thailand, as Gary is a devote religious man.
We have tried to access his SS funds and his US bank funds with no success. There are only two gateways open to us now, GoFundMe, or a US Court intervention to appoint a Guardian to oversee Garys health and finances. The latter is difficult because Gary is stuck in Thailand, and wife doesnt have the funds to instigate such proceedings, and anyway, Gary's immediate needs cannot wait for lawyers and Courts to do battle. So thank the Lord for Gofundme.
Gary was released from hospital because he could not cover the expenses. His US relatives were asked to help, but declined. Tookta, Father Joe, Maaka and myself have exhausted all other options.
This is a sad case of a forgotten war veteran, slowly dying, far away from his homeland. We are not asking for much in this case, so if you can spare a dollar or two, I assure you it will go to helping this man have a better ending to his life.
Funds will cover Gary's daily living and medical expenses. The funds will be given out by the fundraiser, to Gary's wife, Tookta, when needed, for the purchase of medical supplies. . I believe Gary only has a short time left.
