To Whom It May Concern:

The Hawk Foundation for Research and Education in African Culture dedicates itself to the promotion of education, holistic health and trauma healing in the African American community, with recognition that when one is healed it touches those around them. We actively work to empower our community to develop solutions for educational disparity, mass incarceration, economic and political development. We engage the community through West African culture. We provide services for the community via educational seminars, lectures, and workshops promoting culturally competent forms of education and creating safe spaces for the community to gather.

Our organization began in 2014, with the initiation of a contract with Green Hill Juvenile Detention Center in Chehalis, Washington, to provide African centered education. At first, the young men were unsure of participating in the program. But, by the program’s end, the young men had gained proficiency in Yoruba, a West African language, and showed a heightened interest in their academics. After the final presentation of the transformative education they received, parents and children alike were in tears of joy, beaming with pride.

We know Culture heals the wounds of colonialism and oppression, while creating resilience and strength.  Covid-19 has had devastating effects in our community. However, the data shows us that African American and Native communities have been impacted disproportionately.  The Hawk Foundation is currently fundraising to help expand our operating budget and our ability to provide virtual education and wellness programs through drum facilitation and supplemental education programs. The State of Washington is slowly, but surely re-opening and The Hawk Foundation will continue to work with their partners to spread multi-cultural education through the State.

The Hawk Foundation for Research and Education in African Culture is looking to raise 30,000 by August 5th. We will be purchasing additional drums, film equipment, and investing in organizational development  in order to continue to serve our educational partners during the Covid-Pandemic. We invite you to help us in our efforts to implement more effective programming within our community and use African American culture to advocate for social justice. “The Hawk Foundation for Research and Education in African Culture” is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and all donations are tax deductible. The Hawk Foundation for Research and Education in African Culture’s Tax ID number is 83-2157920.
