Hey y'all, what's up! Hope everyone's being safe and self-caring. I made this GoFundMe to help raise money for my top surgery. I came out as a trans man January 7, 2018 and started testosterone on my 21st birthday two months later. After that, I made it a goal of mine to have my name changed by the time I earned my degree. And when I crossed the stage to get my degree when I graduated in May 2019, they called the name I chose. The one that gave me my life back: Ezekiel Leon Hammonds Bush. On that day, I kept a promise to my Granny by graduating and kept one to myself by being authentic to who I am.
Earlier that semester, during spring break, I booked myself a consultation with Dr. Eric Emerson in North Carolina. I only told close friends and my mentor whose house I was staying at for the week. The consultation went well, and Dr. Emerson didn't see any reason why I wouldn't be able to have the surgery. Which means I've basically been ready for surgery for almost a year and a half now. I just can't pay for it on my own.
This amount would help me cover surgery, and travel and stay in NC. The surgery's classified as a full breast reduction (guys have breasts too). He's done other top surgeries, I researched him before my visit. More than likely, I'd stay in a hotel up there for about a week, at least until after my first check up after surgery.
I don't like to ask folk for help; I just try doing everything myself. If you know me you've heard me say "I'll figure it out," even when I had absolutely no clue which direction to go. I've been out of school for 13 months, feeling stuck, with not even a GPS. Just helping momma and the kids out. And I know getting this surgery won't fix anything at all. I'm 100% aware that work on myself happens outside the operation room. I just want to be able to look myself in the mirror a little longer, with a little more love.
I don't have a time limit. I've lived in this body for 23 years so there's no rush. I'm going to be fine, there's too many prayers on my head and in my heart not to be okay. I'd appreciate whatever you could give (after donating to #BLM and taking care of yourself), even if it's a few extra dollars. I know things are crazy right now with corona going around, so please stay safe for me y'all. Wear your masks, love each other for who we are, and remember the bigger picture: leaving this place better than we found it. For everyone.
