Shaun's Journey

Shaun Hilmi is a 16-year-old teenager who is very fit & active from a young age before being diagnosed with his illness. He trained 5 nights a week with Nenagh Athletics club & also played tennis 2/3 times a week, keeping himself very busy. In January 2020 he started to feel discomfort in his right hip area, which at first was considered to be a minor injury or growing pains. After several hard weeks of physio sessions, no progress was made and the pain worsened as he became increasingly immobile & stressed. He just wanted to fix his injury & get back to his training routine but unfortunately, after being advised to go for various different scans, the problem was eventually found to be much more serious than first thought. 

On the 27th of May, we received Shaun's diagnosis,  (Ewings Sarcoma Cancer). This type is very aggressive & has spread to both his lungs at a rapid pace. They found a ten-centimetre tumour on his right glute muscle, which was lying on his nerve which was causing him immense pain. An astonishing fact is this type of cancer affects just 2.93 individuals in a million, making his particular case very rare. 

Shaun will have to undergo 6 cycles of chemotherapy,  surgery & possibly radium. That's without including the physio sessions & rehabilitation he will have to complete after his treatment to get back 100%. Unfortunately in the world, we live in today, money talks! Shaun's treatment will be very expensive and which he needs to give him the best possible chance of making a full recovery. Any donations, big or small will be a push in the right direction. Of course, it is unusual times and we are extremely grateful for everyone's support & help in conquering Shaun's journey!
